Day 26 - Eyes on the Prize

Frequent changes to the path and an appropriate number of stops make the day’s hiking positively endurable. The ever-present gusts of wind make three layers of clothing a necessity throughout, the first such occasion along the route.

With the Swiss border inching closer by the day, the mind allows itself to drift to the final stage of the GR5 across the Alps. The idea of traversing stages in the snow whilst most huts are still closed makes little sense. Hence a break from the current rhythm could be triggered in a fortnight’s time, allowing for other travels to take centre stage.
